There is something special about chanting the Hanuman Chalisa in the quiet hours before dawn, and this live performance by Krishna Das captures that feeling beautifully. Known as the 4AM Chalisa, this video from the Krishna Das Music channel presents the hymn as a soulful kirtan, with singalong lyrics on screen so everyone can join in.
What this video is about
Krishna Das, the American kirtan artist who has devoted his life to Indian devotional chanting, leads a live audience through the Hanuman Chalisa in this recording. The forty-verse hymn of Tulsidas unfolds as a call-and-response chant, building gently in energy as more voices join in.
The on-screen lyrics make it easy to chant along, even if you are hearing the Chalisa for the first time. The live setting gives the recording a warm, communal atmosphere that studio versions cannot quite match.
